About the Artist

Tyler Sherer (B.1993) is a California-based artist whose creative journey began during childhood. Some of his formative early experiences involved visiting galleries and museums, witnessing firsthand the art of painters such as Sargent, Rembrandt, and Bouguereau. Standing in front of these larger than life paintings, Tyler was deeply moved by the emotions that these pieces evoked and the level of mastery needed to create such a meaningful body of work. These experiences led Tyler to hone his skills as a young artist with the hope of following in the footsteps of those before him and capturing the essence of life's surroundings. With study and practice, Tyler's artistic eye continued to evolve along with his heightened sensitivity to the interplay of light, shadow, and color. Inspired to create with intention and lifelong permanence, Tyler pursued a new medium, tattooing, which he continues to this day.

Process

Rooted in fine line contemporary black and gray techniques, Tyler emphasizes texture and contrast as constant themes in his work. He takes a calculated approach to each tattoo, visualizing the composition as a whole to ensure the work exists harmoniously with the body.

Painting

Tyler splits his time between tattooing and oil painting. Inspired by his early years, he is focused on finding his own voice as a painter, in an attempt to evoke the same emotions that he felt standing in front of the works of the old masters.
